The University of Memphis is investing $1 million into its artificial intelligence programs in an effort to bring xAI to Memphis. The company, founded by Elon Musk, plans to build the world's largest supercomputer in Memphis this year, pending approval by local and state agencies. U of M President Bill Hardgrave stated that the arrival of xAI is a perfect fit with the technology innovation ecosystem of Memphis. The university is already a leader in artificial intelligence, particularly in its application in education, healthcare, and transportation. The proposed AI supercomputer is described as being larger than the two largest supercomputers in the world combined. This project has the potential to put Memphis on the map as a tech hub, according to Meka Egwuekwe, executive director of Code Crew.
