The U.S. Senate has released a roadmap on artificial intelligence, following a series of insight forums in the Fall of 2023. The roadmap, entitled "Driving U.S. Innovation in Artificial Intelligence: A Roadmap for Artificial Intelligence Policy in the United States Senate," focuses on eight key themes, including supporting U.S. innovation in AI, AI and the workforce, and national security. The roadmap also includes recommendations for broad funding and resource development, promoting workforce development, transparency and disclosure policies, and risk-based governance models. The impact on counties is also discussed, with particular focus on areas of regulatory oversight, strategies on combatting fraud and abuse of use, and enhancing election integrity. While the Senate Roadmap on AI is not currently a series of formal legislative proposals, it could pre-date legislation in the coming months. The roadmap is being monitored by the National Association of Counties (NACo) as a precursor to additional Congressional activity in the area of artificial intelligence.
