IATA released data for May 2024 global air cargo markets showing continuing strong annual growth in demand.

Table of Contents

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has reported a significant increase in global air cargo demand for May 2024. The demand for cargo tonne-kilometers (CTKs) rose by 14.7% compared to the previous year, marking the sixth consecutive month of double-digit year-on-year growth. This growth has been attributed to factors such as trade expansion, booming e-commerce, and capacity constraints on maritime shipping. However, the US imposing stricter conditions on e-commerce deliveries from China may pose challenges for growth on the Asia-North America trade lane. The report also highlights regional performances, with African airlines showing the strongest demand growth at 18.4% year-on-year. The data indicates a positive outlook for the air cargo market, with expectations for future growth. For more information, please contact Corporate Communications at IATA.
