Siliconware Precision Industries Co., Ltd. (SPIL) has broken ground on its new RM6 billion semiconductor plant in Batu Kawan, Penang. The state-of-the-art facility is expected to create nearly 3,000 skilled jobs over the next 15 years and will feature advanced packaging and testing technologies. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including government officials and industry leaders, who emphasized the significance of the project for the region and the industry. The Minister of MITI welcomed SPIL’s investment, highlighting Malaysia’s position as a preferred destination for global semiconductor companies. The CEO of MIDA also underscored the benefits of SPIL’s investment, stating that the facility will enhance Malaysia’s semiconductor ecosystem and position the country as a key player in the international semiconductor market. SPIL's CEO expressed gratitude for the support and emphasized the company's commitment to environmental sustainability. As part of ASE Technology Holding, SPIL's expansion in Penang is expected to drive innovation and economic growth in the region and beyond.
