A recent report has revealed that Kentucky is facing an education crisis, with the majority of students not being academically prepared for the future. The latest Kids Count Data Book from the Annie E. Casey Foundation shows that a high percentage of eighth graders are behind in math, and fourth graders are behind in reading. The number of young children not in school has also increased. Federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief grants have been used to support digital learning and hire more staff, but these funds are set to expire soon. Advocates are calling for more support for students, particularly those from low-income families and communities of color, including access to school meals, reliable internet, tutoring, and mental health support.
