The House Foreign Affairs Committee has approved the bipartisan North Korean Human Rights Reauthorization Act, led by Indo-Pacific Subcommittee Ranking Member Ami Bera, M.D. and Chairwoman Young Kim. The bill aims to reauthorize and update the North Korea Human Rights Act of 2004, in an effort to promote human rights and freedom in North Korea. Representative Ami Bera emphasized the need to strengthen the United States’ commitment to promoting human rights in North Korea, while Rep. Young Kim highlighted the importance of holding authoritarian regimes accountable and supporting freedom-loving people trapped under their rule. The bill has been passed out of committee and is now on track to be considered by the full House.
