DP World Completes $400 Million Expansion Project at Port of Callao, Peru

In a major development, DP World has finished a $400 million expansion project at the Port of Callao in Peru, increasing container handling capacity at the South Terminal by 80%. The Bicentennial Pier expansion project extends the pier from 650 meters to 1,050 meters, allowing Callao to accommodate three vessels simultaneously. This expansion boosts handling capacity from 1.5 million TEUs per year to 2.7 million TEUs and includes the addition of state-of-the-art electric-powered equipment. The project is part of DP World's ambitions for Latin America, aiming to enhance connectivity and economic vitality in the region. CEO Carlos Merino stated that the completion of the expansion marks a transformative moment for the Peruvian economy. Additionally, the terminal now hosts the first electric charging station for trucks in Latin America, supporting DP World’s fleet of electric ITVs and promoting a sustainable energy transition in the Peruvian market. DP World aims to make trade flow better and is dedicated to creating stronger, more efficient end-to-end supply chain solutions.
