The US government has allocated $285 million in CHIPS Act funding for the development of semiconductor digital twins. This work will be carried out at a newly formed Manufacturing USA institute, with the goal of boosting domestic production of crucial next-gen materials and technologies. The digital twins are virtual models that mimic the structure, context, and behavior of a physical counterpart, and are intended to help America move faster in designing and fabricating its own chips. The funding opportunity is open to any domestic entity based in the US, and the resulting institute will join 17 other Manufacturing USA members. The goal is to accelerate US advanced manufacturing as a whole.
