The Hawaii Department of Health is urging residents who rely on electric and battery-powered medical devices to prepare for potential power outages. With the start of the Pacific hurricane season and planned wildfire safety measures by electric utility companies, it is essential for households with medical device dependencies to have a power outage plan in place. The department recommends discussing this plan with healthcare providers and updating family preparedness plans. Hawaiian Electric has also announced a Public Safety Power Shutoff program for at-risk areas to prevent wildfires, and residents are encouraged to visit their website for preparedness steps. For additional emergency preparedness tips and resources, all households are encouraged to visit www.preparenowhawaii.org. For more information, residents can contact the Hawaii State Department of Health.
