Intel has announced a partnership with 14 Japanese companies to work on automating the "back-end" chipmaking processes. This move comes as both the U.S. and Japan aim to reduce geopolitical risks to their semiconductor supply chains. The collaboration will be led by Kunimasa Suzuki, head of Intel's Japanese arm, and will include companies such as Omron, Yamaha Motor, Resonac, and Shin-Etsu Polymer. This initiative is seen as an effort to catch up on the automation of back-end chipmaking processes, which has lagged behind front-end production.
