Guterres highlights ‘unique level of destruction’ in Gaza ahead of G7 summit

Guterres emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian aid in Gaza, where attacks have hampered relief efforts. He also highlighted the widening inequality in the global economy and called on richer nations to support emerging economies. Guterres' remarks were made at the Global Leaders Forum at UN Geneva, where he urged the G7 to commit to doubling finance for adaptation and closing the adaptation finance gap. UN Trade and Development agency UNCTAD Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan echoed Guterres' concerns, emphasizing the need to avoid new trade barriers that could impact developing countries. Guterres and Grynspan both stressed the importance of meeting the UN-backed Sustainable Development Goals to ensure peace and security in a global economy free from poverty and hunger.
