Road Freight Transporters Encouraged to Become Authorised Economic Operators (AEO)

During the recent Road Freight Association (RFA) conference, Louise Wiggett, founder and managing director of Global Trade Solution, emphasized the significant benefits for road freight transporters in becoming Authorised Economic Operators (AEO). Wiggett explained that AEO accreditation through the South African Revenue Service designates a company as a reliable trade partner, facilitating faster access to customs procedures and reducing delays and trade costs. The programme also eliminates manual processes, allows for electronic submissions, and provides automated notifications sent directly to operators. Wiggett stressed the importance of encouraging stakeholders in the supply chain to join the programme, particularly for African countries looking to increase trade with each other. She highlighted the AEO programme's role in enhancing trade facilitation and improving security.
