The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) has issued an urgent call for up to 1,500 households and businesses on Hawaiian Home Lands to switch their phone and internet service providers immediately. This comes as a result of Sandwich Isles Communications (SIC) facing foreclosure by the federal government due to nonpayment of a major loan, potentially leading to a sudden loss of critical telecommunications services for affected parties. DHHL is working to minimize disruption for beneficiaries and has provided alternative service providers for affected customers to contact. Additional resources and ongoing updates are available on the department’s Broadband Program webpage. DHHL, established in 1921, aims to rehabilitate native Hawaiians by returning them to the land. For more information, beneficiaries can contact Diamond Badajos, Information and Community Relations Officer at the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.
