Coal Region Community Raises Funds for Legal Battle to Fight Tire-Burning Permit

A grassroots organization in Carbon County, known as Save Carbon County, recently held a fundraiser to raise money for a legal battle against Stronghold Digital Mining, Gov. Josh Shapiro, and the Department of Environmental Protection. This legal action is in response to Stronghold's request for a permit to burn tires, which has raised concerns about environmental pollution and tax credits. The company, which generates electricity for cryptocurrency mining, has applied to use tire-derived fuel to supplement their electricity use. Save Carbon County is appealing the permit and has filed a lawsuit against Stronghold, the governor, and the DEP. The organization is concerned about the potential environmental harm and is working to limit it. The fundraiser was successful, raising nearly $2,000, and future events are planned to support the ongoing legal battle. Stronghold CEO Greg Beard has defended the company's practices and environmental standards. The community is rallying together to protect the environment and their local businesses.
