US Defense Chief Lloyd Austin visited Cambodia for a one-day trip and met with Prime Minister Hun Manet, Senate President Hun Sen, and Cambodian counterpart Tea Seiha. During the visit, Sen asked the US to keep Cambodia out of its geopolitical strategy, while expressing support for improving relations between the two countries. Austin also discussed strengthening defense ties and military dialogue with Cambodia, as well as joint military drills on disaster response. The two sides also discussed the Russia-Ukraine war, the war in Gaza, and the disputes in the South China Sea. Austin's trip to Cambodia came shortly after the country held a joint military drill with China. He described the visit as productive and expressed his desire for further dialogue to strengthen US-Cambodian defense ties.
