AI-controlled F-16 takes US Air Force leader for high-speed ride - as he backs tech to launch weapons

The US Air Force Secretary, Frank Kendall, recently took a groundbreaking test flight in an AI-controlled F-16 jet called Vista. The flight, which took place over California, saw the experimental jet perform lightning-fast manoeuvres at speeds of over 550mph. Mr. Kendall was so impressed that he expressed his trust in the AI's ability to decide whether to launch weapons. The US Air Force hopes to have over 1,000 of these AI-controlled jets in the coming years. However, there are concerns from arms control experts and humanitarian groups about the potential for AI to autonomously drop bombs without human consultation. Despite these concerns, Mr. Kendall assured that there would always be human oversight when weapons are used.
