The 3rd Blue Economy Conference is set to take place on July 4-5 at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Center in Tanzania. Organized by the Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI) in collaboration with the Regional Maritime University (RMU) in Accra, the conference aims to bring together international stakeholders to promote the blue economy and tap into its potential for development. With an estimated annual turnover of between US$3 and US$6 billion, the blue economy offers significant opportunities for employment and economic growth. The conference will focus on capacity building, networking, and addressing challenges related to maritime safety and security, climate change, and technological advancements. Keynote speakers for the event include the Deputy Minister for Transport, Tanzania, David Mwakiposa Kihenzile, and other experts in the maritime industry. The conference is a joint effort between DMI and RMU, following a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions. Dr. Jethro W. Brooks Jr, the Ag. Vice Chancellor of RMU, expressed optimism about the conference's potential to support the transformation of the African continent through the maritime industry.
